OVERVIEW

Many of our students are planning a career in medicine and are looking for some initial training in this area. After the regular DTS classroom time in the morning a special “stream” is run once a week in the afternoon teaching a special course called "Basic Skills for Medical Missions. Subjects covered are, Common Dental conditions, Patient Assessment, Common Eye Conditions, Cardiac, Diabetes, Skin Infections, Wound Care, Hygiene/Infection Control, Health Education, Pregnancy/Delivery, Tropical Disease, Nutrition, and Practicum. The course is taught by qualified healthcare professionals. We feel this is an excellent course providing practical training to help meet the needs of those in developing nations. A certificate will be issued for this course.

OUTREACH

Students will team up with other health-care professionals in a developing nation to provide medical services to the poor. This will include trips into isolated areas where little or no healthcare is provided. The team could be involved in anything from dental, optical, primary healthcare and trauma care.

Students will complete the medical course mentioned above as a tool for their outreach program.

I am Nesi from Fiji and my husband Api and I have a 3 year old vibrant boy called Emmanuel...most of our friends call him Manny. Api and I served and met on the YWAM ship, the MV Pacific Link (LOVE BOAT) in 2005, then we got married after my DTS and I moved on to be in the Marine Reach Regional office in the Personnel Dept.

I'm excited to see where God will take us in this school and so I welcome you to join us and go deeper! "Lako Mai "(come).
