DTS with a difference! Life onboard the M/V Pacific Hope is a close community and during your DTS you will develop deep friendships, while ENCOUNTERING God and deepening your faith. You will live aboard the vessel after flying into Panama City, Panama for the first twelve weeks of lectures before setting sail for two months of outreach in the Caribbean Islands. Sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone, and into a place of adventure and EXPLORATION in order to see new perspective.
During the first 3 months you will have teaching about aspects of God’s character and nature, His Father heart, how to hear and identify His voice, and a vast array of other topics that will take you on a personal journey into the heart of God. It is a time that will forever change how you look at yourself, your world, and your God. You will also have stream specific teaching on-board the M/V Pacific Hope training in navigation and seamanship.
Following the lecture phase, you will set sail into the Caribbean bringing the truth of Jesus to these isolated people. Marine Reach has been reaching out to isolated communities of the South Pacific for more then two decades, and we are excited to announce the ministry's expansion into the Caribbean Sea, launching from Panama City in 2018. Our heart is to support this vision with the Ship DTS. You will have the opportunity to put what you've learned into practise as you help out around the ship, serve alongside the ship crew and long-term Marine Reach staff, and be a blessing to the people of the Caribbean as you EMBRACE their culture. This is an opportunity you do not want to miss. Be a part of the ADVENTURE, doing something that deeply matters, making a DIFFERENCE, and learning new skills. Come and literally STUDY, SERVE, SAIL!
Please Note: All of our DTS's join together weekday mornings for combined lectures, worship, and intercession. The main lectures cover topics like Hearing God's Voice, Relationships, the Nature and Character of God, and the Holy Spirit, to name a few. Normally in the afternoons throughout the week, each individual school will have specific focus groups, also known as streams. The streams are taylor made to focus on each school theme. For example, the Ship DTS will cover specifics having to do ship navigation and seamanship.
Our Discipleship Training Schools are registered with the University of the Nations but not for the purposes of accreditation as U of N is not an accredited University as stated on their web site.
Serving on board the M/V Pacific Hope
You will spend time on board our ship learning basic maritime skills including navigation. Learn the ways of the sea from one of our Captains, enabling you to stand "on watch" being the point person for emergencies, and even become a valuable member of the ship's crew. The skills learned will serve you in ship-equipped ministries no matter how or where you serve!
The stream curriculum is designed to take someone with little or no knowledge in navigation and seamanship to a basic degree of competence. Not only will you learn technical skills, but also how to apply cultural and biblical values to all aspects of navigation and seamanship.
Topics may include:
• Understand the principles of navigation and seamanship.
• Work as a team in preventing and responding to an emergency.
• Learn the principles of leadership and its disciplines and apply them with an understanding of island culture.
• Understand the basic principles of Engineering and engine maintenance and operation.
• Have a worldview and international awareness that respects island cultures in the use of ships.
