Pacific Hope – Marine Reach International

Pacific Hope in Vanuatu Sunset

The M/V Pacific Hope

After finishing an amazing six-month tour of Vanuatu, the M/V Pacific Hope is getting ready to depart for the Caribbean to help in the disaster relief efforts.

During our time in Vanuatu over the last three years, tens of thousands of men, women and children have received free medical care, including over 60 patients who received surgeries for cataracts. Thousands more have benefited from our education programs, including junior school children who attended our new “Keep Safe” programs. Our new Regional Training and Medical Centre is half way through construction, with an opening date projected around July 2018. Visit our Vanuatu page for more information!

The M/V Pacific Hope is now getting ready to sail to Fiji where we will be refueling and provisioning the vessel in preparation for her long four week trip to Panama. It is expected the vessel will refuel once again in Panama before heading for some of the most devastated islands, commencing the relief effort.

Funds are desperately needed for relief supplies in the Caribbean. Make a lasting impact!

Check out what happened on a recent outreach to Vanuatu!

Since the inception of Marine Reach in 1990, four ships have been launched from our base in Tauranga, New Zealand and provided over $47 million worth of Dental, Ophthalmology, Medical, community development and construction services to over 500,000 people in the Asia-Pacific region.

Our current ship, the M/V Pacific Hope, was purchased in 2012, and has since undergone extensive renovations to include suitable accommodation, training facilities, and a fully functional dental/ophthalmology clinic. Over the past two years, she has served in the South Pacific, primarily in the nation of Vanuatu, providing these same services to some of the most isolated islands in the Pacific.

Along with the practical aid the ship naturally brings, our ship outreach teams have also ministered to the spiritual and emotional needs of the people, bringing the message of hope only the Gospel of Jesus can bring.

The ongoing costs of running a Medical Ship ministry are considerable. Medical supplies, fuel, food and shipping costs all add up to a sizable financial burden. If you wish to donate to the M/V Pacific Hope, click the button below!

Volunteering on a ship or land-based short-term outreach is a great way to immerse yourself in another culture, meet new people, learn new skills or use the professional skills you have, and give back to a community or nation in need. Outreaches are usually two weeks long, but longer periods of service are welcomed. In 2017, we have had four medical outreaches in Vanuatu. In the future, outreaches will take place in the Caribbean – please email us if you are interested to serve in 2018.
