Marine Reach

History of Marine Reach

Marine Reach was founded in September 1990 in Tauranga New Zealand, as a maritime expression of YWAM mercy ministries. Since its inception, our ships, volunteers and partner ministries have reached over 500,000 people in the Asia-Pacific region.

Our ships, and the years they were acquired are:

  • M/V Anastasis – 1978
  • M/V Good Samaritan/Island Mercy – 1983
  • M/V Pacific Ruby – 1990
  • M/V Pacific Link – 2001
  • S/Y Next Wave – 2004
  • M/V Pacific Hope – 2013

Due to the many years of service in the Philippines by the M/V Island Mercy (formerly known as the Good Samaritan), Marine Reach planted a forward base in Calapan City, Mindoro. It was named Mercy Link, and continues to this day, hosting overseas teams, running clinics, Bible studies, child sponsorship programs, and even church plants!

Over the first decade of the 2000s, Marine Reach made a concerted effort in bringing the Good News of Jesus to the people of the Fiji Islands with our ship the M/V Pacific Link. This ultimately resulted in the planting of a forward base, Marine Reach Fiji, in Lautoka Fiji, which also continues to this day as a self sustaining ministry.

Currently, our 4th vessel, the M/V Pacific Hope is serving the nation of Vanuatu. This nation has less than 1 dentist per every 35,000 people, and less than 1 medical doctor per every 30,000 people. In a nation with less than 300,000 people, this is a staggeringly small number. The Hope has been offering dental, ophthalmological, and primary health care services since her refit was completed in 2015. Beginning in 2018, the M/V Pacific Hope will be redeployed into the Caribbean Sea, based out of Panama City, Panama!

YWAM operated ships are ministering in the following locations: The M/V Pacific Hope is working out of Tauranga, NZ focusing on ministry in Vanuatu. The YWAM PNG is currently working out of Townsville, Australia focusing on ministry in Papua New Guinea. The M/V Pacific Link is currently working in Papua New Guinea, based out of Kona, HI, USA. The S/V Next Wave is currently working out of the United Kingdom into the Mediterranean.  The Amazon Reach is serving the Amazon Basin.

Beginning in 2018, the M/V Pacific Hope will be redeployed into the Caribbean Sea, based out of Panama City, Panama! We will be partnering with Sea & Summit YWAM based out of Bishop, California to see God’s kingdom furthered in the Caribbean islands through this amazing vessel!
